Two discs are crafted and assembled around a hidden bearing, so the top moves at a touch while the base stays still. Four glasses wait around it with the bottle among them, and with one hand the evening comes round to whoever is next. Nobody reaches, nobody waits; the pour simply travels. Compass is the quiet host at the centre of the table, steady and warm, making sure every guest is reached in turn.

- What it is
- Black walnut, crafted and assembled: a top disc turns on a hidden bearing above a base disc. Holds four glasses and a bottle. Hand-crafted in India.
- What it does well
- The top turns so the bottle comes round to every guest. The finish is alcohol-proof, so a whiskey spill wipes away, and it is food-safe and satin to the touch.
- Looking after it
- Wipe spills straight away with a damp cloth, then dry. Never soak it or put it in the dishwasher, and keep it away from direct heat. Every once in a while, after many uses, rub in a little 100% food-grade mineral oil and 100% natural beeswax.
- Good to know
- This is an assembled piece. The grain and colour differ from tray to tray, and the hardware may mellow with time. One-year replacement warranty.
